Does Hope Inspire Love Only Operate in the United States?

Hope Inspire Love operates nationally in the United States. Our headquarters are in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We are always evaluating opportunities to expand our reach into different communities because human trafficking is everywhere.

What Type of Human Trafficking Do You Focus On?

Hope Inspire Love is committed to abolishing Sex Trafficking and breaking the cycle of commercial sexual exploitation while fighting to uproot the larger system of injustice and exploitation that made it possible. Although we do support other types of trafficking that fall under the force, fraud or coercion to control victims for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or labor services against his/her will, our primary focus is on abolishing sex trafficking and underlying causes in our culture that allow the industry of sexual exploitation to thrive.

Do you rescue victims from human trafficking?

Hope Inspire Love does not provide rescue initiatives. We recognize that prevention and awareness is the first step to putting an end to trafficking. We are deeply committed to prevention and awareness projects, education, training, advocacy, and trauma-informed mentorship. Visit our Solutions page for more details on our 3-tier solution approach.

Do You Support Aftercare for Victims?

Hope Inspire Love does not work directly with aftercare survivors unless they are enrolled in our trauma-informed mentorship program. We do partner and empower local social workers and aftercare shelters and organizations that specialize in caring for human trafficking victims. We also support the efforts of local organizations that specialize in caring for human trafficking survivors. We also provide local police with victim support while they prosecute traffickers and we also offer training to equip frontline workers about trafficking identification.

Do you partner with other NGOs and nonprofits in the fight against human trafficking?

Yes. Most of our partnerships are hand selected to aid in areas that Hope Inspire Love feels necessary to collaborate with such organizations as it works to accomplish its mission and their mission. When we donate to a charitable organization through a partnership, we help make the difference we’re unable to provide with our own hands. Consequently, social impact organizations don’t just work to achieve their mission—they also empower individuals to effect change. They mobilize people to play a part in making the world a better place.

How can I help?

You can help fight human trafficking and sexual exploitation by supporting the work of Hope Inspire Love. Join us in our work with a one-time donation or sign up to give with a monthly donation to support our mission. You can also purchase with purpose by visit our online store and purchase products that fuel prevention and support survivors. We also welcome interns and volunteers to help us fulfill our mission.

How Do I Request a Speaker?

A big part of Hope Inspire Love’s mission involves public engagement and education. We welcome the opportunity to share with the broader business community, churches, schools, colleges and universities as a featured speaker, moderator, or panelist. To request a speaker, simply complete and submit the online request form, preferably six to eight weeks before your event. Please note that a submission does not guarantee a speaker for your event. Because of our limited availability and the demand is high, we cannot guarantee that all requests can be filled. Flexibility around dates will help immensely in securing a speaker and should be noted in the comments section of the form.

Statement of Faith

1. We believe that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

2. We believe that the Bible is God’s written revelation to man and that it is verbally inspired, authoritative, and without error in the original manuscripts.

3. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, death on the cross to provide for our redemption, bodily resurrection and ascension into heaven, present ministry of intercession for us, and His return to earth in power and glory.

4. We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit performs the miracle of the new birth in an unbeliever and indwells believers, enabling them to live a godly life.

5. We believe that man was created in the image of God, but because of sin, was alienated from God. That alienation can be removed only by accepting through faith God’s gift of salvation which was made possible by Christ’s death.

What bird is on your logo and what does it symbolize?

Our logo has a freedom bird (a mix between a sparrow and a swallow) because in biblical times, lowly small birds were considered as birds of very little value and Jesus used them as an illustration of God’s care for his children. God’s eye is on the sparrow – God’s care for mankind.

In Luke 12:6, Jesus says, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.”

Human beings and the little lowly birds are part of God’s miraculous handiwork. These birds represent and symbolize the concern of God for the most insignificant living things. Lowly birds of little worth are tiny and have dull, bland coloring. In the Bible, this physical insignificance represents the size and importance of each soul relative to the unfathomable expanse of the universe.

The Lord chose such a common little bird to illustrate such a profound truth. Everyone and everything God created is significant and His concern for his creations is limitless. Victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation are not alone because God does care for them and through our services, we are able to reach out to them, intercede for them, and help provide freedom.

Our society so easily violates and exploits the rights of people, deeming victims as of little value, insignificant and lowly status — treated as commodities. A sparrow is of course of comparatively little value, and it is, therefore, a striking exemplification of God’s providence to say that he watches even over the sparrow’s fall (Matthew 10:29), God also watches over each and every one of us. God cares and loves us. We are here to help prevent, educate, restore, and awaken a new sense of dignity and self-worth.

Join us in the movement to abolish modern-day slavery and fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

All interns work closely with Hope Inspire Love staff in assisting the work we do and do not receive exposure or direct contact with survivors of trafficking. Most of the work that interns are involved in relate to awareness campaigns, advocacy, marketing, donor relations, and communication projects/initiatives.

Can I Intern Remotely?

Unfortunately, we do not allow our interns to work remotely in most cases. We believe it’s best for the organization and for the interns that they are present in our Pennsylvania office during their time with Hope Inspire Love. There are exceptions to this rule (and rare) but such opportunities are on a case-by-case basis.

Can I earn college or university credit for my internship?

If you’d like to receive credit for the internship from your academic institution, talk with your academic advisor or guidance counselor to begin that process; it will look different at each school. We’re happy to work with you to make sure you have everything you need to receive credit if it’s available.

We are unable to consider individuals who are not able to commit to complete the full term and the required hours. Interns must be able to provide a minimum of 8-10 hours a week between Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm and be available on some weekends for events. Volunteering

Why should I volunteer?

Hope Inspire Love is always looking for passionate, caring, like-minded, sold-out abolitionists to join us. Our volunteers do great things every day using their talents and skills in a variety of areas within our organization, from communications to marketing, advertising to writing, and from photography to graphic design. Volunteers also assist the organization team with general office duties, administrative needs, and representing Hope Inspire Love at local events. Our volunteers come from a variety of cultures and walks of life. If you have a heart to serve in any of these capacities and would like to gain experience in a fast-paced nonprofit office setting, please consider volunteering with Hope Inspire Love.

What is the time commitment required to volunteer?

Time commitments vary according to the area in which you choose to volunteer. Many volunteers work hours regularly every week or monthly. Take a look at our volunteer opportunities to determine which ones best fit your schedule.

How do I start the process of becoming a volunteer?

The first step to becoming a Hope Inspire Love volunteer is to apply online using our application form. As part of this process, you will be asked several questions and will be required to provide answers to essay questions. You will also be required to submit to a background check. Once all steps have been completed, you’ll be contacted to discuss next steps.

When should I apply?

There is no deadline for applying to volunteer. However, it is advised to apply as soon as possible after you have decided on your area of interest. Every area has limited number of spots available. We abide by the first come first serve policy.

Can I volunteer in more than one area?

Yes, you can volunteer in multiple areas, but we suggest you first focus on one area. Once you have volunteered for a while and have a better understanding of your time commitment, you are welcome to let us know if you would like to expand your volunteer time to accommodate other areas.

Why do I have to complete a background check to volunteer?

In order to volunteer, you must clear a background check (Investigative Consumer Report), which includes a Social Security Number Verification/Address History, Nationwide Sex Offender Registry, Multi-State Criminal Search, and Single County Searches. Due to the sensitive nature of our work, background checks are important to reaffirm our accountability to the public, donors, and the people we serve. The background check will help us achieve a more efficient and safer work environment for our staff, interns, and volunteers. Prospective volunteers must pass this background check in order to be cleared as an official volunteer.

Can I get a letter or proof of my volunteer hours?

Yes, let our volunteer program coordinator know you are seeking this information and we’ll be happy to provide you proof of your volunteer hours.

Will I be trained if I volunteer?

Yes, all volunteers will go through a specialized training session. Some areas require additional skill-set training, screening and clearance requirements.

If I volunteer, will I be working with survivors of human trafficking?

While we appreciate your desire to personally work with victims and survivors of trafficking, we do not allow this. Most of our partner restoration homes don’t allow this either, but if you feel called to work directly with survivors, we recommend that you reach out directly to volunteer with a restoration home. The survivors in restoration homes and shelters are often suffering from trauma related to psychological and emotional issues, and are not in a position to cope with visitors or Hope Inspire Love volunteers. Due to the criminal nature of human trafficking, confidentiality and privacy of the survivors, we do not disclose the location of our partner restoration homes and shelters.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone over the age of 16 can volunteer with Hope Inspire Love.

I already got a FW t-shirt/hoodie last year, I don’t need another one

Most registrations for the Freedom Walk include an apparel item. If you already got one last year with your registration and did not want to receive this year’s apparel item, you can select the “no apparel registration” option.  You will still need to register to participate. There are no discounts for not accepting the apparel item. You can also upgrade to a long-sleeve t-shirt, hoodie, or hat for an additional cost. The Freedom Walk is an awareness and fundraising event. The registration fee is a donation to the work that Hope Inspire Love does with its Trauma-informed Mentorship Program, trainings, prevention education initiatives, and community awareness.

If it rains, will the event still happen?

Yes, the Freedom Walk itself is rain or shine, but if an extreme storm is imminent, the event will not be rescheduled. If you register, you will receive an email with more information and next steps in the event of a weather-related cancellation. In the event of inclement weather for that date, we will send out an email the day before with any updates or changes to the schedule. Hope Inspire Love reserves the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. In that event, there will be no refunds. Rather, the participant’s registration fee will be used as a donation to Hope Inspire Love.

When will I get my Freedom Walk apparel?

We will have a local pickup day/time scheduled for the week of the event, where you can pick up your apparel prior to the event. If you are not able to pick up your apparel before the event date, you will be able to pick it up when you check in on the morning of the event. Please make sure that you wear all-black clothing for the walk. Volunteers will also receive their apparel at this time.

Do I need to wear all black for the event?

Yes, it is imperative that you wear black or dark colors (such as dark grey if you don’t have black). The registration fee provides a black t-shirt, but depending on the weather, you might need to have a black long sleeve shirt underneath, a black sweatshirt, or a black jacket. Please refrain from having any colored clothes besides black.

Why do I need to wear black clothing?

We wear black in solidarity with human trafficking victims and survivors.

I don’t have black clothes, can I still walk?

We will allow someone to walk without black clothing but we do encourage you to borrow black clothing from a friend if possible. If you still are not able to have access to black clothing, we will have you walk at the end of the line so your clothing colors don’t distract from the rest of those walking. The walk is about making a statement so it is imperative to stick to the color code.

I can’t walk 2 miles, is there anything else for me to do?

Yes, you can stay at Musser Park and enjoy the music from the stage. Feel free to bring a lawn chair to rest during that time.

I have young children that can’t walk for 2 miles, should they still come to the event?

Yes, feel free to bring your children. Strollers and wagons are welcome.

Can I bring a stroller on the walk for my young child?

Yes, feel free to bring strollers for them. The walkway can get a little bumpy in some areas so please keep that in consideration. Wagons will be permitted but please be aware that the sidewalk conditions in certain areas are not conducive for wagons. Adults with strollers and wagons will have the option of walking at the back of the line if they feel that their pace might detract from the pace of those walking.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, feel free to bring a dog as long as they are on a leash.

Can I bring my own sign to hold during the walk?

Yes, you can bring your own sign but please keep the content of the sign related to either human trafficking statistics or pertinent information that helps create positive awareness. No political or controversial signs will be allowed. Hope Inspire Love will provide some special signs that people can carry that have been designed specifically for this Freedom Walk. We reserve the right to remove a personal sign if we feel that it does not adhere to the sentiment of the purpose of the walk.

Where can I park?

There will be some limited street parking that is metered around Musser Park and beyond. If you will be street parking, you can use the ParkMobile App to manage your parking. The closest parking garage is Duke Street Garage (150 N Duke St), about three blocks away.

HIL & SSD Merger

Why are Hope Inspire Love and She’s Somebody’s Daughter merging?

Hope Inspire Love and She’s Somebody’s Daughter are two nonprofit organizations that have merged into a single entity. This merger is uniting the strengths and resources of both organizations to expand services, enhance programs, and create greater impact across the communities of Central and Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Under the strategic tagline “Better Together, Stronger Together,” both nonprofits are combining into a stronger, more resilient, and mission-aligned organization that champions collaboration and community building. By joining forces, we are expanding our reach and deepening our impact, delivering vital restorative care and outreach services to meet the growing needs of the women and youth we serve.

Is this merger happening because of financial challenges?

No. This merger is not being driven by financial difficulties. Both organizations are in a strong and healthy financial position, and this decision reflects strategic opportunity rather than financial necessity. It is the natural next step in a partnership that has been built over many years of successful collaboration. Our organizations have worked closely together for over eight years, and through that experience, we’ve seen firsthand how well our missions, values, programs, and approaches align.

By formally joining together, we can build on that strong foundation to work even more effectively and efficiently. Combining our complementary strengths and existing infrastructure will allow us to streamline operations, reduce duplication, and focus more resources on advancing our shared mission. This merger is about opportunity—strengthening our impact, deepening our collaboration, and positioning us to serve our communities even better together.

Can you tell me more about She’s Somebody’s Daughter?

She’s Somebody’s Daughter, Inc., is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that began in 2012 as an awareness initiative about the links between sex trafficking, pornography, and the commercial sex industry. They also extend prevention education initiatives to community members, law enforcement, and civic organizations. Today, they also provide “Outreach” as the first step to begin to build trusting relationships and offer holistic support to people affected by or vulnerable to sexual exploitation by meeting them wherever they are—strip clubs, motels, massage businesses, truck stops, homeless shelters, prisons and jails, rehabs, and online. Through consistent presence, She’s Somebody’s Daughter shows up with food, gifts, love, and hope—not as rescuers, but to erase the lines of separation and build genuine community. They honor women within the commercial sex industry, with no agenda but to build relationships and offer a holistic support system for them.

Will the mission change?

Our missions have always been to eradicate human trafficking and sexual exploitation and provide restorative care, education, and outreach. Both organizations are grounded in shared purpose and aligned values, and with deep hope for the future, this merger represents a bold step forward, ensuring continuity and opportunities to expand impact. By aligning missions and honoring shared heritage, both organizations are advancing an unwavering commitment to the One vulnerable individual, to the One victim, and to the One survivor.

Why was this partner organization chosen?

Hope Inspire Love has been partners with She’s Somebody’s Daughter for over 8 years, and we recognized the values-aligned decision to join forces to better reach and provide services to those that we serve. Under the strategic tagline “Better Together, Stronger Together,” the nonprofits are combining into a stronger, more resilient, and mission-aligned organization that champions collaboration and community building. By joining forces, the two organizations will expand their reach and deepen their impact, delivering vital restorative care and outreach services to meet the growing needs of the women and youth they serve.

Will my donations continue to support the same programs I originally funded?

Yes. We commit to honor all donations that have come in and will continue to be gifted to support the same programs for which these gifts were originally intended. Such restricted gifts will not be used for anything other than what the donor intended.

How will this merger increase the impact of our donations?

By joining forces, we are combining resources to reach more survivors and exploited women, offer more opportunities, and ensure long-term sustainability for the critical programs our communities depend on.

The merger is expanding Hope Inspire Love’s reach into 11 Pennsylvania counties, including Lancaster, Montgomery, Dauphin, York, Berks, Lebanon, Cumberland, Lehigh, Perry, Adams, and Franklin counties. This expansion brings all those services offered into one organization, multiplying impact and allowing more survivors in our community to receive long-term services and support through their healing journey. This consolidation will help meet survivors right where they are at, and decrease the demand for vulnerability and revictimization. Our announcement video says 8 counties, but we’ve added three more since the recording of the video, for a total of 11 Pennsylvania counties.

What opportunities will this merger create?

Together, we are creating a distinctive model to deliver expertise and innovative approaches to restorative care services that help more women and youth move toward stability, independence, and freedom. This merger will also create a greater scale of expanded services, stronger advocacy, better funding capacity, and improved long-term sustainability.

How will this merger affect volunteers and volunteer opportunities?

Our volunteers remain an essential part of our mission, and that will not change. The merger is designed to strengthen our collective impact while building on the relationships and programs that already make our organizations successful.

For volunteers, our goal is to make the experience even stronger by bringing together shared resources, ideas, and opportunities. While there may be some adjustments over time as we align processes and programs, our commitment to supporting, valuing, and engaging volunteers will remain the same. This merger will create opportunities for volunteers to be part of a larger, more connected organization with an even greater ability to serve our community. Most importantly, the dedication and contributions of our volunteers will continue to be at the heart of everything we do.

When will the merger be officially final?

The merger is awaiting final approval from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is expected to be finalized in the summer of 2026.

What happens to donations already made?

We want to honor your heart for giving. Your donation stays right where you designate it unless you tell us otherwise, and, as always, legal and ethical stewardship standards will remain in place. Unrestricted donations will continue to fund Hope Inspire Love’s programs and services: Restorative Care Services, Outreach, Prevention Education, Mentorship, Art and Equine Therapy, Case Management, and Social Enterprise.

Will my recurring donation continue automatically?

Yes, your donations will continue automatically. If you are a She’s Somebody’s Daughter donor, we will reach out to you to set up your giving in our new donor management system. If you would like to change your giving options, you can contact Erika Canfijn at 717.219.8530 or via email at and update your contact information and/or giving preferences.

Will there still be financial transparency?

We know it’s important to you that your donation is being used effectively. It’s important to us, too. That’s why we work hard on accountability and transparency. We highly value integrity at Hope Inspire Love, so we publish our financial information at the end of every year.

Hope Inspire Love is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to financial integrity, responsible stewardship, and accountability.

You can view our financial information, including our annual IRS Form 990 and Financial Review. You can find this information on the Financial Integrity area of our website. We champion financial transparency, and our continued accountability and financial practices continue to remain compliant and consistent with both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Federal law.

Hope Inspire Love is also committed to Platinum Transparency with Candid and GuideStar. The Platinum Seal is the highest level of recognition offered by Candid and GuideStar and is awarded to nonprofit organizations that provide key insights into their mission, strategy, financials, and measurable impact. It is designed to help donors, partners, and community stakeholders understand an organization’s work and the difference it is making.

Will donor privacy and data remain protected?

The security and confidentiality of your information are our highest priority. We commit to keeping your information, as a valued member, private and secure. Hope Inspire Love understands that you care how your information is used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will use it carefully and sensibly. Your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to safeguarding it. What should donors and supporters expect during this transition?

As She’s Somebody’s Daughter becomes part of the Hope Inspire Love family of programs, supporters may begin to notice several updates and changes over the coming months. While some things may look different, the heart of the mission and the impact on the community will remain the same.

Here are a few changes donors and supporters can expect:

Branding Updates: You may begin to see the Hope Inspire Love name, logo, and branding incorporated into communications, events, social media, and printed materials connected to She’s Somebody’s Daughter.

Website Changes: Information related to She’s Somebody’s Daughter will now be housed within the Hope Inspire Love website. Existing pages may redirect to new pages, and supporters may receive communications from Hope Inspire Love moving forward.

Program Naming: Some programs or initiatives may be renamed or presented as programs “powered by” or “within” Hope Inspire Love. This helps unify services while still honoring the history and identity of the work that has already been established.

Communication Changes: Emails, newsletters, and event invitations may now come from Hope Inspire Love or reference both organizations during the transition period.

Yes, you will continue to receive donation receipts and year-end giving statements for your donations. These are both mailed and emailed to every donor.

Will leadership change?

Amy Thurston will continue to lead this new chapter as the Chief Executive Officer of Hope Inspire Love, ultimately leading the combined organization after the integration.

Are any staff members losing their jobs during this transition?

No staff members will lose their employment as a result of this transition. One of our highest priorities throughout this process has been caring for and preserving the incredible team members who make this work possible every single day.

We deeply value our staff and the unique gifts, compassion, and dedication they bring to serving survivors and our community. Each team member will continue to play an important role in the transformational work we do to empower survivors to flourish and thrive.

Maintaining mission continuity is incredibly important to us. This transition is not about reducing the people behind the mission — it is about strengthening the work, expanding collaboration, and creating even greater opportunities to serve with excellence, compassion, and hope. We are grateful that this next chapter allows us to move forward together, united in both purpose and people.

Will local programs and offices remain open?
